Firefighters and civil protection are still present in Wandre, on the Renewi site, the waste recycling center where a major fire broke out overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday, around 11 p.m. The men of the fire will still remain on site for the next 24 hours. The population of Wandre and the neighboring communes of Basse-Meuse are asked to close the windows of their homes and to remain confined. A call for vigilance was also issued to the cities of Hasselt and Maastricht. An analysis of the fumes is in progress to determine the possible toxicity. The cause of the fire is not yet determined.
