Looking for a goaltender to form a duo with Anton Forsberg, the Ottawa Senators have come to an agreement with Joonas Korpisalo.

The 29-year-old Finn will be in Ottawa for the next five seasons at an average annual salary of $4 million.

Last year, the Senators had bet on Cam Talbot by acquiring the Minnesota Wild, but the experiment had not been fruitful.

Last season, Korpisalo played 28 games with the Columbus Blue Jackets before being traded to the Los Angeles Kings. He then played 11 season games with Los Angeles, in addition to goaltending for six playoff games.

In 39 games last season, Korpisalo had a 2.87 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage.

In 221 NHL games, Korpisalo has a record of 94-81-25.

A season for Brannstrom

The Ottawa Senators have agreed to a one-year, $2 million contract with defenseman Erik Brannstrom.

The 23-year-old guard will still be a restricted free agent at the end of his contract. In 2022-23, Brannstrom had two goals and 16 assists in 74 games with Ottawa.

A first-round pick of the Vegas Golden Knights in 2017, he was acquired by the Senators in 2019 in the trade that sent Mark Stone to Vegas.

In 190 NHL games during his career, Brannstrom has four goals and 49 points.

Another young defender under contract

Moments later, the Senators signed 23-year-old defenseman Jacob Bernard-Docker to a two-year contract at an average annual value of $805,000.

The Senators’ first-round pick in 2018, he played more AHL games last season. With the Belleville Senators, he had two goals and six points in 41 games, while he had one assist in 19 games with Ottawa.

Bernard-Docker played 32 NHL games during his career.

Several other agreements

The Senators also signed three other players for a one-year, two-part term. They are Rourke Chartier, Justin Currie and Boko Imama who will all earn US$775,000 if they play in the NHL next season.
