Rafa Benitez will sign a three-year contract as Celta Vigo coach. The Spanish first division club announced it.
The former Liverpool, Chelsea and Real Madrid manager will replace Carlos Carvalhal who left Celta by mutual consent after saving the team from relegation last season (Celta finished 13th).
Celta Vigo, which will celebrate its centenary next season, said an agreement in principle had been reached with Benitez, 63, and that he will sign his contract in July.
Rafael Benitez won the 2005 Champions League with Liverpool, and two Spanish championships with Valencia in 2002 and 2004. His last team coached was Everton, from whom he was sacked in January 2022.
During his career he also managed Inter Milan, Naples and Newcastle, in particular.
