The Ukrainian army has announced that it has broken through the Russian defense lines at Robotyne and is now moving towards the south of the country. Kiev’s next targets in the southern province of Zaporizja are Novoprokopivka, Mala Tokmashka and Ocheretuvate, army spokesman Oleksandr Chtupun told Ukrainian television on Sunday.
The information of a recapture of Robotyne, which could not be confirmed from independent sources, is however deemed credible by military observers after several weeks of combat.
Alongside its military impact, this victory on the ground would also be important psychologically, after the criticism – especially in the United States – of the meager results of the Ukrainian counter-offensive launched at the beginning of the summer.

According to this Ukrainian source, Russia would have activated its air force in the face of this breakthrough, a sign, according to kyiv, that Vladimir Putin’s artillery and infantry are overwhelmed by the advance.
With this offensive to the south, the Ukrainian army has the occupied cities of Tokmak and Melitopol in its sights. The strategic objective is to reach the Sea of Azov, and thus cut the land link of the Russian occupation zones with Crimea.
According to this spokesman, Russian forces attacked the towns of Avdijivka and Marinka in the Donetsk region in the north, but these assaults could however be repelled.
