Breaking Weather Records: South Dakota’s Extreme Temperature Updates

2024-01-15 15:52:04

Record setting temperatures were recorded in a variety of locations around South Dakota over the past few days, while other locations had challenging records to break.

National Weather Service Meteorologist Scott Doering says the longer records have been kept in a particular location, the more difficult it is to set new ones.

Doering says the Pierre-Fort Pierre area is dealing with one of its coldest stretches of consecutive days, ever.

Doering says some areas of South Dakota set new record cold high temperatures over the weekend.

While these temperatures are quite cold, Doering says we’re not close to the record low temperatures for South Dakota.

That record was set Feb. 17, 1936.
