BrickBoy Soars on Kickstarter: Secures 700,000 Euros for Innovative Countertop Solution

LEGO Game Boy gets a Functional Upgrade with BrickBoy

Kickstarter success fuels accessible modding solution for LEGO and Nintendo fans.

A new project, BrickBoy, is rapidly gaining traction after exceeding its funding goal on Kickstarter. Launched in late October 2025 by Swiss team Substance Labs, the campaign has amassed over 700,251 euros against an initial target of 100,000 euros. BrickBoy offers a way to transform the popular LEGO Game Boy set – a collaboration between LEGO and Nintendo consisting of 421 bricks – into a fully functional console without requiring any soldering or complex programming skills.

The project builds upon the wave of modding enthusiasm sparked by the release of the LEGO Game Boy set. While creators like Natalie the Nerd previously demonstrated the technical feasibility of making the LEGO console playable, BrickBoy aims to provide a user-amiable solution for the wider public.

Simplified Installation with Magnetic Sensors

The key innovation of BrickBoy lies in its remarkably simple installation process, promising assembly in as little as five to ten minutes. The system utilizes magnetic sensors positioned beneath the directional pad and action buttons. Pressing the LEGO bricks activates these sensors, registering the corresponding input. This ingenious design avoids any modification to the original LEGO components, preserving the integrity of the building experience.
