The British Conservative government announced on Monday, December 4, a one-third increase in the minimum wage to obtain a work visa, among a series of measures to reduce net immigration by 300,000 people per year, following a record of 745,000 reached in 2022. In front of Parliament, Interior Minister James Cleverly announced a major turn of the screw, consisting of preventing employees in the health sector from bringing in members of their family, and increasing by a third for other sectors the minimum annual salary required to work in the UK. It will increase next spring to 38,700 pounds sterling (45,160 euros), comparable to the median full-time salary.
