London: British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said that if there is a ceasefire in Gaza, it will only benefit Hamas and there is no need for a complete ceasefire. Britain fully supports Israel’s right to self-defense. Rishi Sunak also stated that a temporary ceasefire in Gaza would be enough to allow British citizens to leave Gaza and humanitarian aid to reach the besieged zone.

“We understand the need for a safe environment to deliver aid and evacuate British citizens. This does not mean a ceasefire. Instead, it is a temporary pause’ – Sunak said in Parliament. His office also noted that the ceasefire would only serve to benefit Hamas.

Meanwhile, Israel’s extensive demolition of residential complexes in Gaza has pushed the number of homeless people to over six million. Refugee camps in Gaza are overflowing, the UN refugee agency UNRWA said. Six lakh people live in 150 camps. UNRWA Commissioner General Philippe Lazzarini said that this is four times the capacity.

“Our shelters are holding four times their capacity. Many people are sleeping on the streets due to the limited current facilities” – UNRWA said in a post shared on X.

UNRWA Gaza Director Thomas White said that without fuel, the people of Gaza will not have access to clean drinking water and hospitals will be closed. He told the media that if this situation continues, the refugee protection activities will have to be stopped.
