Briton dies mid-flight, family must remain with body for several hours

Helen Rhodes died Friday, August 5, in her sleep, while traveling with her family between Hong Kong and the United Kingdom, reports “The Guardian”.

Helen Rhodes, a British midwife, died Friday August 5 in her sleep, at the start of a flight from Hong Kong to the United Kingdom, recount The Guardian. According to the British daily, the body of the victim remained in his seat “for the remaining eight hours of the flight.”

Her two children and her husband were therefore forced to stay for more than eight hours alongside the lifeless body, before the plane finally landed in an emergency in Frankfurt.

A kitty in support of the family

Helen’s body remained in Germany, while her husband, Simon, and two children, Emma and Nathan, returned to the UK.

The family had spent the past fifteen years in Hong Kong, and were due to return to the British island for the first time since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.

A kitty of support for his family was launched by Jayne Jeje, a friend of Helen Rhodes. The drama moved the whole of the United Kingdom, and in a few hours, the equivalent of 27,000 euros had already been collected.

This money must be used to finance unforeseen expenses for the funeral, in particular repatriation costs.
