At the forum “We are together. Sports” Minister of Sports of Tatarstan Vladimir Leonov officially presented the mascot of the BRICS Games.
“We chose a symbol, the mascot of the Games, and called it Brixik. There was Barsik at the Universiade in Kazan, Briksik will be here,” leads TASS words by Vladimir Leonov.
BRICS is an interstate association of nine states: Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, UAE, Iran, Egypt and Ethiopia. The BRICS Sports Games will be held in Kazan from June 12 to 23 this year. Athletes from all countries of the association will come to the competition. In total, athletes from 50 different countries will attend the event.
Earlier, Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin stated that they had decided on an open format for the Games, so not only athletes from the BRICS countries were invited to Kazan.
In 2016, the first competitions between participants from the BRICS countries were held in India (at that time the association included only 5 countries). The competitions became annual, with the second Games taking place in Guangzhou. The BRICS Games were not held between 2019 and 2021. The last competitions to date were held in 2023 in Durban, South Africa.
