Tony Awards Boost Broadway: ‘Good Night, And good Luck’ & ‘othello’ Exit on High Note, While Others Hope for a Post-Awards Bump

New York, NY – While it’s still early to gauge the full impact of Sunday’s Tony Awards on Broadway’s bottom line, initial box office reports reveal a strong finish for several productions, notably those that closed instantly after the ceremony. Notably,Good Night,And Good Luck starring George Clooney and Othello both achieved record-breaking weekly grosses,proving that critical acclaim and star power can translate into critically important ticket sales.

Record-Breaking Final Bows

Good night, And Good Luck concluded it’s run wiht a remarkable $4,331,226 gross – its highest weekly take ever. Othello wasn’t far behind, earning $3,807,875 in its final week. Both productions had already recouped their investments last month, ensuring a accomplished run for producers and investors. Glengarry Glen Ross also joins the list of financially successful shows, having recouped its investment prior to its June 28th closing.

Tony Snubs & Struggling Shows

Though, not all shows benefited from the pre-Tony buzz. Several productions struggled to fill seats, potentially needing a post-tony boost to maintain momentum. Boop! The Musical filled only 85% of its seats,while Dead Outlaw (80%),Floyd Collins (77%),Real women Have Curves (72%),Smash (66%),and The Last Five Years (69%) all experienced lower attendance. The Last Five Years is already scheduled to close on June 22nd.
