Broken contract between Formula 1 and Russia

There will be no more Russian Grand Prix until further notice. The Formula 1 promoter has definitively broken the contract with the Russians, in reaction to the invasion of Ukraine.

The commercial arm of F1 believes that it is no longer possible to go racing in Russia in the current situation. The GP scheduled for September had already been canceled. But Thursday’s decision also means the Russian race disappears from the calendar. Saint Petersburg was planned as a new circuit for the GP from 2023.

Russian President Vladimir Putin was instrumental in bringing F1 to his country. The first GP was contested there in 2014 in Sochi, a few months following the Winter Olympics.
