Broward Officer Accidentally Shoots Himself at Shooting Range – NBC Miami (51)

A Broward detention officer was hospitalized following she accidentally shot herself at a Sunrise shooting range Wednesday morning, authorities said.

The incident occurred during a training exercise at Markham Park on State Road 84 located in the City of Sunrise.

Broward Sheriff’s Office officials said the veteran deputy, who works for the Department of Detention, was shot in the leg that was “accidentally self-inflicted” in nature.

The officer was taken by ground to a local hospital, but is expected to be okay, authorities said. The identity of the officer has not been revealed at this time.
