Brügg BE: fatal fall into empty lock

During maintenance work on a lock in Brügg last Wednesday, a man fell several meters down. As the Bern canton police announced on Monday, the 58-year-old died on Sunday.

The police had informed on Wednesday regarding the serious accident. Accordingly, the man at the empty lock was busy with maintenance work when he fell several meters down onto the concrete floor for reasons that are still unknown. He was initially cared for by work colleagues who were present before an ambulance team arrived and took over the medical care.

Since the scene of the accident was difficult to access, the man had to be rescued with a crane. A Rega crew flew him to the hospital in critical condition.

According to the canton police, investigations into the circumstances and causes of the accident are continuing.
