Brussels Kidnapping: Police Intervention and Arrest of Suspects

Last Thursday, around 9 p.m., the local AMOW police (Asse, Merchtem, Opwijk and Wemmel) received a call from a father reporting the kidnapping of his minor son. The Brussels King’s Prosecutor issued a press release this Thursday on the progress of this kidnapping and the police intervention.

A few hours after the report, the police and the child’s father had contact with the kidnappers explaining that they were going to release the hostage in Asse. Shortly afterwards, a resident of Asse reported the presence of the kidnapped minor. The latter was hit several times.

The same evening, the police were able to identify the vehicle (which was traveling in the Anderlecht region) and the kidnappers. Thanks to reinforcements, the police stopped the fleeing vehicle where three men were on board. The latter were deprived of their freedoms and interviewed. The three suspects were handed over to the Brussels public prosecutor’s office. An investigating judge was requested and decided to place the three suspects under arrest warrant “for willful assault and battery on a minor, illegal and arbitrary detention, hostage taking, verbal threat with order or condition and robbery with violence or threats, in a gang, with weapon and vehicle”. The exact conditions of the kidnapping will have to be determined by an investigation.
