A mother has just been sentenced to prison by the Brussels Court of Appeal. The reason ? She fed her child exclusively with breast milk… for more than two years, as reported by our colleagues at La Libre.
The child’s father lives in the United States. When in 2018 the family visited the grandparents, who lived in Brussels, the grandfather directly noticed that the child’s health was not good. And for good reason: the mother had only fed him breast milk since his birth. Quickly taken to hospital in critical condition, the child weighed less than a six-month-old and had never been vaccinated.
He will stay in the hospital for a year to fully recover. He then went to live with his dad in the United States. He was not held responsible by the courts, because it was the mother alone who made the decision to feed him only in this way.
The mother was sentenced to two years in prison with a three-year suspended sentence.
