A new political party could soon see the light of day in the Brussels Region. This emerges clearly from an internal and confidential document, intended to raise funds for an electoral campaign and which a favorable wind sent to La Libre.
It mentions certain ambitions for 2024, an election year. The objectives are noted in bold letters on this internal document: “Take Brussels to finally transform it”, but also “be the essential itch for federal Belgium”.
The objectives are mentioned in the subtitle. In the Brussels Region, the minimum objective is set at 50,000 votes, in order to make itself “essential to join the regional government and block the path of the PTB”.
For the federal level, it is a question of “putting the populists of Vlaams Belang and the PTB out of the game” with the ambition of obtaining a seat in the Chamber.
This emerging movement also wants to “inspire Europe from its capital”, and “reduce the capacity of populists to cause harm at the European level”.
The founder of this movement, Laurent Hublet, announced on November 5 his departure from BECentral, the Brussels digital campus, for a new project.

This former collaborator of Alexander De Croo, then in charge of the digital agenda, then remained quite vague about his intentions. “I’m going to take a breather first. I will then embark on a new project,” he replied, denying “100%” his upcoming arrival at the Engagés.
A close guard
Several names have been cited to us on good authority as potentially belonging to his operational team, or close guard, in the long term.
Laurent Hublet has already approached Wafaa Hammich, former spokesperson for Philippe Close (PS), mayor of Brussels, to make her his future campaign manager, but also Nathan Soret, TV and radio host, who is notably at the head of the communication agency Nonante-Cinq. The latter reacted to this information: “I am surprised that my name is mentioned and this is in no way an option for me”. Wafa Hammich declared: “Iam Brussels is a citizen meeting project for which I loved curating events in the 19 municipalities of Brussels, but I have no intention of returning to the political fold. “.
According to our information, he also discussed his future plans with François Bailly, who is close to and also the current spokesperson for the Prime Minister, Alexander De Croo (Open VLD).
The name of the future party has not yet filtered but serious clues exist. Several evenings, during which speakers are invited to speak, take place throughout Brussels in what resembles a citizen movement, entitled “IAmBrussels”. The last grand finale party will take place on December 13 at 6:30 p.m.
On the website of this movement, several petitions are proposed, one against dirt in Brussels, another in favor of more security in the capital, or even against the lack of places in daycare centers.
Could this citizen movement soon transform into a political party? This is clearly Laurent Hublet’s desire.

At this point, even the name is not defined.”
Basically, the party appears to be very Brussels-oriented and center-right. Laurent Hublet is in fact seen as a liberal, pro-business, sensitive to the environment. It remains to be seen whether this niche could be promising in a political landscape which already has numerous parties, and where Défi, the Engagés and the MR are competing for center-right voters.
