Bug no novo Mac Pro disconnects SATA drives inadvertently

As we detailed yesterday, the new Mac Pro comes with slots PCIe for expansion cards, but due to Apple’s chip design, the machine only supports a limited number of card types, such as for extra storage. Now, however, Apple has revealed that there may be a problem with even that.

according to one new support document from the company, “certain models” of SATA drives may be “unexpectedly disconnected from the computer following the Mac resumes from sleep mode”. Still according to Apple, this can happen if your Mac automatically goes to sleep or if you do it manually.

If you see a message that your disk didn’t eject properly, restart your Mac to reconnect to the drive.

The problem is specifically with internal SATA drives, but Apple did not provide further details – the company did say, however, that it will update the support document “as more information becomes available”.

In fact, she said she was “aware of this issue” and also that a “resolution is planned for a future macOS update”. Until then, the company offers a Work around workaround, which is to enable the option to prevent automatic sleep when the screen is off (in System Settings » Screen » Advanced).

It is worth remembering that macOS 13.5 is already in the testing phase, but it is also likely that a macOS 13.4.1 will be released to resolve this more quickly. We’ll see.
