Ankara: Malaysian Minister of Higher Education should not promote China phobia in Asia. Minister Sambri Abdu Qadir said that they should not allow anyone to impose cold war mentality on them.

He was speaking at a panel discussion titled ‘Building Asia-Pacific Regional Architectures: The Challenges of Unmatching Interests’ at the 2024 Antalya Diplomacy Forum.

International media reported that Sambri Abdu explained how China has become an important trading partner in ASEAN countries.

Asian leaders said the world needs to find a middle ground to achieve economic prosperity. The leaders also pointed out that strong discussions should be held on issues such as the climate crisis, new security challenges in the world and economic opportunities.

The leaders made it clear how important it is to engage with China and the United States without becoming pawns of the world’s dominant powers.

The panel discussion was attended by representatives and ministers from Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Vietnam.

Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Balasurya praised China and India for their help during the crisis. Balasurya said he believes more regional organizations will emerge to help South and Southeast Asian countries in the coming years.

According to the report, the forum assesses that many developing countries are working towards strengthening institutions like BRICS, African Union, ASEAN and SAARC.
