In a critically important boost to Bulgaria’s defense capabilities,the nation has officially received its first F-16 Block 70 fighter jets at Lockheed Martin’s facility in Greenville,South Carolina. Bulgaria’s acquisition of these advanced fighter jets is part of a two-phase project,with 16 F-16 Block 70 aircraft contracted in 2019 and 2022. Two multi-purpose fighter jets are scheduled to arrive in April 2023, followed by six more by the end of 2025. The remaining eight aircraft are expected to be delivered by the end of 2027.
to ensure seamless integration of these sophisticated aircraft,Bulgaria is committed to intensive pilot and engineering training programs. A total of 32 pilots will receive specialized instruction in the United States, while the training of the engineering staff is already underway, with plans to train over 100 specialists.
