Burkina Faso recorded 701 deaths from dengue from January 1 to December 10 this year, according to the country’s public health authorities.

The Director General of Health and Public Hygiene, Issa Ouédraogo, told journalists in Ouagadougou on Wednesday that as of December 17, 2023, 150,943 suspected cases of dengue, including 70,000 probable cases, had been notified on the Burkinabe territory, with 701 deaths recorded.

He specified that all 13 regions of Burkina Faso were affected by dengue, particularly those of the Center and Hauts-Bassins which had reported respectively 57.66% and 24% of suspected cases.

Mr. Ouédraogo stressed that a decline in the disease had been observed since the beginning of December, including a decline in the number of new deaths, thanks to multiple control actions carried out by the government.
