Burkina Faso’s withdrawal from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) will allow it to sign agreements with new partners “independently”, Burkina Faso Prime Minister Apollinaire Joachim Kyélem said on Monday. Tambela.

“The withdrawal from ECOWAS will allow us to reorganize ourselves according to our interests and to sign bilateral agreements with those who want it, in various areas according to reciprocal interests. And independently without the interference of any power whatsoever,” said the head of the transitional government during a meeting with the country’s economic operators.

According to the Burkinabe official, Burkina’s withdrawal from the institution “is not directed once morest anyone, once morest any institution, once morest any State.”

This withdrawal aims “to assume our sovereignty and to ensure the security and prosperity of the populations of our area”, he clarified, noting that the country responds “to provocations wherever they come”.

On January 28, Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger simultaneously announced their withdrawal from ECOWAS.
