Kabul: Seven people were killed and 20 injured in a bus explosion in the Afghan capital yesterday, police said. Kabul police spokesman Khalid Zadran said the blast occurred in the Dash-e-Barchi neighborhood, an inner-city area of the Shia Hazara community. “A bus carrying civilian passengers exploded in the Dasht-e-Barchi area of Kabul, unfortunately seven of our compatriots were martyred and 20 others were injured,” Khalid Zadran said in a post on social media site X. He added that security personnel reached the spot and started investigation. In late October, the Islamic State group claimed a deadly blast at a sports club in the same neighborhood. Taliban officials said four people were killed and seven others were injured in the blast. Since the Taliban ended their insurgency following seizing power in August 2021 and ousting the U.S.-backed government, the number of bombings and suicide attacks has dropped significantly. However, several armed groups remain a threat, including the local chapter of IS.
