Business leaders gather at the Davos Forum… Comprehensive global cooperation and Busan Expo bid

On the 16th (local time), the heads of major Korean companies attended the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF, Davos Forum), which opened in Switzerland.

They interact with CEOs of each country, seek countermeasures for global issues such as the global economic downturn, supply chain crisis, and climate change, while rolling up their sleeves before hosting the 2030 Busan Expo.

According to the business world, heads of major groups such as Lee Jae-yong, chairman of Samsung Electronics, Chey Tae-won, chairman of SK Group, Chung Eui-sun, chairman of Hyundai Motor Group, Kwang-mo Koo, chairman of LG Group, Dong-bin Shin, chairman of Lotte Group, and Dong-gwan Kim, vice chairman of Hanwha Solutions, visited Davos.

GS Group Chairman Heo Tae-soo, HD Hyundai President Chung Ki-seon, and Hyosung Vice Chairman Cho Hyun-sang also attended.

They are expected to share opinions with key foreign figures on major challenges facing humanity, including current global economic issues such as supply chain disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war.

In this regard, it is expected that the leaders will find ways to cooperate globally by putting each group’s new business vision and technology at the forefront.

Chairman Lee Jae-yong, who visited Davos via Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on his first business trip in the new year, is expected to seek to expand cooperation in future key areas such as semiconductors and bio.

Emphasizing the fact that the management paradigm shifted to ‘eco-friendly management’ last year, it is expected to set out to establish a role in response to climate change.

After the forum, the possibility of going around European subsidiaries to check the global management status is also discussed.

Chairman Chey Tae-won is also expected to emphasize SK Group’s goal of contributing to the realization of carbon neutrality by advocating that future energy such as hydrogen and eco-friendly businesses such as batteries will continue to expand on a global level.

SK Group also showcased various carbon reduction technologies at the world’s largest home appliance and IT exhibition ‘CES 2023’ recently held in the United States.

Hyundai Motor Group is focusing on promoting its identity as an eco-friendly future mobility company by supporting 45 eco-friendly vehicles, including electrified models, at the Davos Forum.

Chairman Chung Eui-sun is also expected to emphasize this direction and seek to strengthen cooperation in future business areas such as electrification, hydrogen energy, and future aviation mobility (AAM).

Chairman Kwang-mo Koo, who is attending the Davos Forum for the first time, Chairman Dong-bin Shin, and Vice Chairman Dong-gwan Kim are expected to find opportunities to expand future food sources such as reducing carbon emissions and next-generation batteries while interacting with CEOs of major global companies and observing global market trends related to new businesses.

Chairman Huh Tae-soo will also attend several sessions on the subject of reducing carbon emissions and converting to eco-friendly energy while meeting with global companies to discuss future business cooperation plans such as energy conversion using eco-friendly biotechnology.

President Chung Ki-sun plans to strengthen communication with the global industry on climate change response, focusing on the shipbuilding, marine, and energy sectors, such as eco-friendly autonomous ships and offshore wind power, and Vice Chairman Cho Hyun-sang, focusing on new businesses in the material sector.

They will also attend a CEO luncheon presided over by President Seok-Yeol Yun at home and abroad, where they will share opinions on global issues with major overseas companies such as Intel, IBM, Qualcomm, JP Morgan, Mubadala, and Sony.

At the ‘Korea Night’ event held on the 18th hosted by the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, a publicity campaign to attract Busan Expo will continue with key figures from around the world.
