Apart from Gimli, the Dwarves are missing subscribers in The Lord of the Rings. Yet they did participate in the war effort. Explanations.
The Lord of the Rings is a very rich saga. To the point that some alternative events are often unknown to the general public. Few people know in particular what becomes of Sam after the trilogy. And among the other questions that torment fans, we find in good place the supposed absence of the Dwarves during the War of the Ring.
It must be said that the Dwarves have a reputation for being selfish and only concerned with their wealth. An idea that obviously did not come from nowhere. In The Fellowship of the RingElrond speaks in these terms to Gandalf: “Who will you turn to when we’re gone?” The dwarves ? They hide in their mountains in search of riches, they don’t care about other people’s troubles”.

The Lord of the Rings: The Dwarves distracted the Easterners
However, the Dwarves did participate in a crucial battle parallel to the events told in the trilogy. Refusing to cooperate with Sauron, the congeners of Gimli must face heavy adversaries, the Orientals. That is an army composed of more than 200,000 soldiers allied with the Eye. After three days of bloody fighting, the Dwarves take refuge in the bowels of Erebor, the Lonely Mountain.
A bright idea since this refuge is impossible to break through. Despite a long siege, the Easterners failed to break through the defenses. And after the announcement of the fall of Sauron, they end up withdrawing. By keeping Sauron’s greatest army occupied, the Dwarves indirectly aided Aragorn and his men mobilized in the Battle of the Black Gate.
For if the Easterlings were present, the forces of Mordor would likely have taken over. As a reminder, this battle was a crucial distraction, allowing Frodo to sneak carefree to Mount Doom in order to destroy the Ring.
