The site on which citizens can buy the one-year State bond launched by Vincent Van Peteghem has been the victim of a data leak.
Everyone had access, in particular, to the address of all Belgians, learned the VRT, well helped by an “ethical hacker”.
The Debt Agency, which confirmed the information, has meanwhile closed the security breach.
The data leak concerned the tool that people use to subscribe to the government bond. In the fields where you had to enter your name, your date of birth and your postal code, you might enter the details of any Belgian and discover the address of this person and sometimes even the name of his/her legal partner( e).
