This Tuesday (4), the Chinese automaker BYD (Build Your Dreams) announced the construction of an industrial complex for the production of electric cars, buses and trucks in Camaçari, Bahia. The company must invest R$ 3 billion in the structure.
The brand held a festive event in front of Farol da Barra, in Salvador, to celebrate the implementation of its first electric car industry in Brazil. The expectation is that the 1st phase of operation of the factory will begin in the fourth quarter of 2024.
According to BYD, the new facilities will generate 5,000 new direct jobs, 1,000 of which are already in the 1st phase of operation. In all, three factories will make up the complex. One of them will produce electric and hybrid cars for the automaker.
BYD estimates the production capacity of 150,000 cars per year in the first phase, with the possibility of reaching 300,000 units. The second plant will produce chassis for buses and electric trucks to serve the heavy-duty segment in Brazil.
Finally, BYD’s third facility in Camaçari will be dedicated to processing lithium and iron phosphate and will serve the foreign market through the port structure in Bahia. It is worth remembering that the brand will occupy the facilities that used to belong to Ford.
The Chinese automaker will also have a package of tax benefits offered by the government of Bahia similar to that granted to Ford, which includes a 95% reduction in the Tax on the Circulation of Goods and Services (ICMS).
