RICHMOND, Va. (Nov. 20, 2023) – After an exciting week two of the college basketball season, we have a full slate of CAA Women’s Basketball to get you through the holiday week.

WEEKLY HONORS:
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Chaniya Clark, North Carolina A&T
R-Sophomore | C | Ft. Myers, Fla. / Ft. Myers HS

Clark led North Carolina A&T to a 2-0 week, including its first Power Five win since 2019, with 13.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. Against Wake Forest, Clark added 10 points and seven rebounds, helping the Aggies to a 56-51 road victory. Clark made the play of the game, converting an and-one opportunity with 54 seconds remaining to give A&T a four-point lead and secure the ACC victory for the Aggies. On Sunday, she followed the performance with her first double-double this season, leading A&T to a 56-47 win over Liberty with 17 points and 10 rebounds. North Carolina A&T has strung together three straight wins, with Clark reaching double figures in all three contests.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Laine McGurk, Drexel
Freshman | G | West Chester, Pa. / West Chester Rustin

McGurk averaged 15.0 points and 4.0 rebounds per game, helping Drexel to a 1-1 week against city rivals. On Wednesday, the freshman guard poured in a team-high 20 points on 9-of-12 shooting while adding six rebounds in 19 minutes off the bench. The effort led Drexel to a 71-46 victory over La Salle. On Sunday, McGurk contributed 10 points for her third straight game in double figures despite a setback to Saint Joseph’s.

NEWS & NOTES:
A&T ADDS ACC VICTORY:
On Wednesday, North Carolina A&T earned a 56-51 road win over ACC adversary Wake Forest. It marks the first win for A&T over a Power Five opponent since 2019 and is the second straight win for the Aggies over Wake Forest. North Carolina A&T last met the Demon Deacons in the 2010 WNIT. With the victory, the CAA has knocked off a P5 opponent in four consecutive seasons.

UNDEFEATED, NEVER LOST: Stony Brook has emerged as the final unbeaten team in the CAA. The Seawolves opened the 2023-24 season with back-to-back 2-0 weeks, sitting at 4-0 overall on the year. Stony Brook looks to keep things rolling this week, hosting Delaware State on Wednesday before a B1G road contest at Minnesota on Sunday.

SAFE TRAVELS THIS THANKSGIVING: Seven CAA teams hit the road for tournaments this Thanksgiving week(end). Campbell heads to Puerto Rico for the San Juan Shootout, and Delaware travels to Estero, Fla. for the Gulfcoast Showcase. Additionally, Elon visits the ATL for the Georgia State Tournament, while Hampton heads to the Big Apple for the LIU Classic. North Carolina A&T flies west for the St. Mary’s Thanksgiving Classic in Moraga, Calif., and William & Mary visits Miami for the FIU Thanksgiving Classic. Finally, Towson heads to Annapolis for the Navy Classic.

CAA HOOPS IN THE MID-MAJOR TOP 25: Two CAA teams were recognized in the latest edition of the College Insider Mid-Major Top 25 poll. Towson remained ranked, rising to No. 14 after being ranked 19th in the preseason. In addition, Stony Brook entered the rankings at No. 22, marking the first time multiple conference teams have recognized this season.

NEW YORK STATE OF MIND: CAA teams opened the year with two wins over teams from New York, who were postseason teams last year. Stony Brook defeated Columbia in its season opener 85-73. Columbia was the Ivy League Regular Season Champion last season, advancing to the WNIT Championship game in its second straight postseason appearance. In addition, Monmouth topped St. John’s 74-69 in its home opener for its first win over a Big East team since 2011. The Red Storm made it to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament as an at-large out of the Big East last season.

One thing to know on each #CAAHoops team
Campbell: Christabel Ezumah recorded her second straight double-double with 10 points and a season-high 14 rebounds in a victory over Western Carolina (70-52). Ezumah has at least 10 points in every game this year.
Charleston: Alexis Andrews paced CofC with a game-high 19 points as the Cougars got back into the win column, defeating Charleston Southern (70-60). Andrews has at least 15 points in all three games this season.
Delaware: Against Lehigh, Klarke Sconiers recorded her first double-double this season with a career-high 33 points and 10 rebounds. It marks the most points scored by a CAA student-athlete this season.
Drexel: Amaris Baker paced Drexel with 16.5 points per game, including a season-high 19 points in Drexel’s victory. Baker has reached double figures in three games this season.
Elon: The Phoenix played back-to-back top-25 opponents last week. Elon is the only team in the CAA to face multiple ranked opponents this season.
Hampton: Le’Asia Foreman reached double figures for the first time in her career with team-high 12 points against Norfolk State. The freshman was 4-of-7 from the floor, adding five rebounds and three steals.
Hofstra: Emma Von Essen paced the Pride with 16.0 points per game while adding 5.0 rebounds per contest. The sophomore recorded a career-high 18 points at Sacred Heart.
Monmouth: Kaci Donovan reached double figures in games for Monmouth, averaging 12.0 points per game for the week. Donovan has 10 or more points in three straight games.
North Carolina A&T: Maleia Bracone and Chaniya Clark recorded their first respective double-doubles this season as A&T won its second and third straight games. Bracone had 16 points and 10 rebounds at Wake Forest, and Clark tallied 17 points with 10 rebounds against Liberty.
UNCW: Lexi Jackson pulled down a game and season-high 10 rebounds versus Western Carolina. It marks the first double-digit rebounding effort for UNCW this season.
Northeastern: Derin Erdogan scored a season-high 17 points to pace Northeastern in its victory over Merrimack. The senior guard has reached double figures in three of four games.
Stony Brook: The Seawolves improved to 4-0 this season as Victoria Keenan and Zaida Gonzalez tallied season-highs in scoring. Keenan recorded 16 points against UMES, and Gonzalez had 15 versus Holy Cross.
Towson: Kylie Kornegay-Lucas paced Towson with 15 points in its lone contest last week. She added a team-high nine rebounds with four assists, three steals and two blocks.
William & Mary: Against UVA, Nylah Young scored 13 points. Young has reached double figures in every game this season and leads the CAA in scoring (22.8 ppg).
