WASHINGTON (AP) — Grammy and Latin Grammy Award-winning Mexican band Café Tacvba will receive a Hispanic Heritage Award.

Café Tacvba, Omar Apollo and Siete Family Foods, were announced Tuesday as the first recipients of the 36th edition of the Hispanic Heritage Awards that will be delivered at the Kennedy Center in the US capital and will be broadcast on PBS.

The Hispanic Heritage Foundation (HHF) announced the honorees in a statement. Café Tacvba will be presented live at the ceremony that will take place on September 7 and will be broadcast on the 29th of the same month.

“Café Tacvba has inspired the public with its bright and eclectic sound,” said Antonio Tijerino, president and CEO of HHF. “We are delighted to honor this remarkable group of musical visionaries with our Arts Award and look forward to celebrating Café Tacvba and sharing our collective pride and cultural achievements.”

With a trajectory of 34 years, Café Tacvba is one of the most famous alternative bands in Mexico with albums like “Re”, “Cuatro caminos”, “El objeto antes llamado disco” and their most recent production “Un segundo MTV Unplugged”.

In 2015 they received a La Musa Icon Award from the Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame.

The Hispanic Heritage Awards, created by the White House to commemorate Hispanic Heritage Month, are supported by 40 institutions focused on the Latino community.
