Cairo University’s decision to amend the regulations within the Faculty of Engineering, so that its students graduate after 4 academic years, instead of 5 years as was usual, sparked a dispute between the Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Osama Abdel Fattah, and the Captain, Eng.

Al-Nabarawy asked, during a phone call to the “Akher Al-Nahar” program, broadcast on “Al-Nahar” satellite channel, on Saturday evening, whether the same opportunity is available to students who study engineering at the universities of Beni Suef, Minya, Assiut, Sohag, Kafr El-Sheikh, and other public universities.

Abdel-Fattah replied that public universities have their own specificity, and study the science of “engineering” in different ways, pointing out that Cairo’s engineering is the first in the Middle East, and it was established in 1816.

The President of the Engineers Syndicate expressed his appreciation to the professors of the Cairo College of Engineering, especially since its history is known, commenting: “I am talking about the general engineering students in Egypt. The Syndicate deals with all graduates from all universities, private colleges, and engineering institutes. distinguishing one group from the other.

For his part, the dean of the college stated that those in charge of the new list took two and a half years to work on it, and they are convinced of what they presented, appealing to the president to review it.

He added, “As far as I know, the union regulates the practice of the profession and sets conditions for that, and it is not its responsibility to teach engineering… There is a different scope in the responsibilities of the two sides.”

Al-Nabarawy stressed that the union does not interfere in engineering education at all. Because it is the responsibility of the Supreme Council and universities, saying that they care about issues of practicing and defending the profession.

And he continued, “We are talking about the low standard in some engineering education centers, and the danger of neglecting quality in this regard, and therefore we do not interfere in education, but we interfere in regulation in general.”

Last Thursday, Dr. Muhammad Othman Al-Khasht, President of Cairo University, revealed the new regulations within the Faculty of Engineering, as he announced an amendment to the regulations so that students of the Faculty of Engineering graduate after 4 years of study instead of 5 years as usual.

According to this amendment, the Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University, will be the first governmental engineering faculty that allows students to graduate in 4 years, within the framework of Cairo University’s keenness to bridge the knowledge gap, and conform with educational and international systems in university education.
