General Chair of the National Awakening Party (PKB) Muhaimin Iskandar was reluctant to reveal the candidate who was proposed to run in the 2024 regional head elections (Pilkada) in East Java (Jatim).
He does not want his strategy to be read by Khofifah Indar Parawansa, the incumbent who is also a candidate for governor from another coalition.
“Who is he? The person is still a secret. If Khofifah finds out about the leak, it will be dangerous,” said Muhaimin after meeting the Acting General Chair of the United Development Party (PPP) Muhammad Mardiono at the PKB DPP Office, Jakarta, Monday (30/4).
Khofifah is the Governor of East Java for the 2019-2024 period. He has a big chance of running again as a candidate for governor for the 2024-2029 period.
The requirement for nominating a candidate for Governor of East Java is to have a minimum of 20% of the total seats in the East Java DPRD or 24 seats. Khofiah himself has received an assignment letter from the Golkar Party, which has 15 seats.
Meanwhile, PKB and PPP agreed to form a coalition in the 2024 regional elections in East Java. PKB collects 27 seats in the East Java DPRD for the 2024-2029 period. This makes the party the owner of the most seats. Then PPP has four seats as a result of the elections in the same period.
Previously, Khofifah Indar Parawansa confirmed that he would focus on the East Java Governor Election.
“Since last December, four parties, Gerindra, Golkar, Democrat, PAN, have given assignment letters,” said Khofifah. (Ant/Z-11)
