Cal Crutchlow: «I forgot what to do» / MotoGP

Yamaha test rider Cal Crutchlow (36) provided the laughs of the day on Twitter ahead of his return to MotoGP racing at the Aragón GP.

Cal Crutchlow actually declared his MotoGP career as a regular driver to be over after the 2020 season, but the three-time GP winner was also a test and reserve driver for Yamaha last year: he contested the two Grand Prix in Spielberg in 2021 in what was then Petronas Yamaha team to replace injured Franco Morbidelli. At Silverstone and Aragón he then moved out for the Yamaha works team because Maverick Viñales had to be replaced there.

Now the Briton is coming back to racing in the premier class: Because Andrea Dovizioso ended his GP career early in MisanoCrutchlow will take over the M1 in WithU-RNF livery from next weekend’s Aragon GP and through to the end of the current season.

“Dovi” thinks he knows that he hasn’t done Cal a great favor by doing so. “I haven’t seen him yet – and that’s probably a good thing,” laughed the Italian in Misano. “Because I should have listened to a lot for sure. He’s fine at home.”

In fact, Crutchlow didn’t show up during the two-day test drives in Misano last week, but the 36-year-old, the oldest rider in the MotoGP field, tweeted before his first Grand Prix of the season on Monday: “I should tweet today that we have ‘race week’ and post a picture from the plane on Instagram on Wednesday? I forgot what to do if you’re one of the sheep! I haven’t been to Herd for so long,” Cal asked the group.

One thing is certain: the fans can look forward to the return of his British humor.
