California DMV Introduces Digital Driver’s License for Mobile Devices: True Age Program and TSA Pre-Check Eligibility

California — The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) pilot program has introduced a new initiative that gives California residents the option to carry their driver’s license on their mobile devices.

The digital license can be used as an identification card and to verify age at stores participating in the True Age program. It can also be used as a boarding pass for TSA pre-checking on domestic flights. It is accepted at several international airports, including San Francisco, San Jose, Los Angeles, Denver, Phoenix, Miami and Salt Lake, among others.

This initiative is especially useful for those who prefer to carry everything on their mobile phone. However, it is important to note that the digital license cannot be used for banking transactions and does not replace the physical license. Law enforcement authorities do not yet accept this digital ID, so it is necessary to carry your physical license with you when driving.

To download the digital license, you must use the application available on the DMV website. You must take a photo of the license from the front and back and wait for authorization to obtain the digital document.

The DMV assures that the app does not track the user’s location or collect other data and only activates for 30 seconds to minimize exposure.
