Cambio Radical declares itself an opposition party

Cambio Radical officially announced that it declared itself as an opposition party to the government of President Gustavo Petro.

The decision was made following a meeting of the party’s bench in which its natural leader, former vice president Germán Vargas Lleras, participated. the formal declaration allows them to take advantage of the Opposition Statute that allows them to modify their political declaration once during the presidential term.

Senator David Luna highlighted the importance of the decision at a time of uncertainty and crisis, since he considers that it is key to have greater control to promote the system of checks and balances in the country. Luna applauded the decision and stated that it will allow the government to exercise greater political control and firmly defend the interests of citizens.

The declaration of Cambio Radical as an opposition party has generated various reactions in the Colombian political scene, especially at a time of debate around the measures adopted by the Petro government in its first year in office.
