CAN 2023 postponed to 2024 | Walfnet

Like the 2021 edition, postponed to 2022 due to Covid-19, the 2023 African Cup of Nations will be played the following year, in 2024.

The decision was formalized this Sunday by the Confederation of African Football (Caf). Initially scheduled for June 23 to July 23, 2023 in Côte d’Ivoire, this CAN will finally be held in January-February 2024. This decision follows the heavy rains recorded recently in Côte d’Ivoire, where the months of June and July correspond to the rainy season.

The risks of heavy rainfall and flooding prompted the authority to opt for this postponement. And, with the World Cup from November 21 to December 18, 2022, it was impossible to bring the competition forward to January-February 2023.
