Air Quality Alerts Issued Across North America
Smoke Billowing From the Wildfires Has Extended Far Beyond Canada’s Borders, triggering air quality alerts as far south as Chicago. Forecasters anticipate noticeable smoke smells will persist on Friday evening.
Air Quality Advisories are also now in effect across the U.S.Upper Midwest, specifically impacting Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.
Michigan State Officials Issued A Statement on friday, noting that “Conditions maybe unhealthy for sensitive groups and there is a possibility that hourly levels could reach the unhealthy range for a short period of time.” The advisories are valid through Saturday morning.
Northern Minnesota Residents Have Been Warned that smoke could reach levels “unhealthy for everyone,” with alerts remaining active until Monday evening. The Rest Of The State faces conditions that could effect sensitive groups.
The Situation On The Ground
As Of Friday, there are 15 active wildfires Burning in Saskatchewan. The Canadian Interagency Forest Fire center (CIFFC) has classified conditions in the province as extreme. Seven Of Those Fires are currently uncontained,according to provincial data.
