Canadian: a setback in happiness

Michael Pezzetta had probably never dreamed of a damn presence. Seventh skater to pitch in front of Philipp Grubauer, Pezzetta hit the post.

The final script ultimately didn’t look like a Hollywood movie. The Seattle Kraken posted a 4-3 shootout victory on their very first visit to Montreal.

In a press conference, Martin St-Louis explained his decision to bet on Pezzetta.

“He had scored a goal tonight and he’s a very good teammate,” said St-Louis. I was told on the bench that he had a good feint for the shootout. I didn’t know him for this facet of the game. When he entered center ice, the crowd reacted immediately. There was a lot of energy in the arena. I told myself that it was the right choice before I even saw him take his shot. »

one goal

Marcus Johansson scored the only goal of this endless shootout session. Johansson released a nice feint and then foiled Samuel Montembeault with a precise backhand shot.

Montembeault blocked the first six Kraken skaters, making several spectacular saves. For some rather mysterious reason, Dave Hakstol kept Yanni Gourde on the bench during the shootout.

For the 32e rang

Back in front of full stands for the first time since December 9, there was a great atmosphere at the Bell Center. And this, even if it was a duel between two of the worst teams in the NHL.

Like the last matches since the arrival of St-Louis, the CH played with energy and heart. Trailing by two goals after 40 minutes, Alexander Romanov and Nick Suzuki scored to tie the game.

“When we get to the arena, we now expect to win,” said winger Brendan Gallagher. We found ways to come back to this meeting. But I find it sad for Monty (Montembeault). The atmosphere would have been incredible with a victory. »

What we noticed…

DOLPHIN ENTRENCHED

Martin St-Louis shuffled his cards a bit for the visit of the Kraken, a fairly heavy team. Stripped from the formation against the Canucks in Vancouver, Michael Pezzetta has regained his place on the wing of the fourth line. Pezzetta took advantage of his comeback to score his 5th goal of the season. Laurent Dauphin did not play against the 32e NHL team. Dauphin didn’t have his greatest game against the Canucks, finishing with a -2 record and 11:18 playing time Rem Pitlick took his place at center with Mike Hoffman and Brendan Gallagher.

8 IN 16

Yanni Gourde opened the scoring in the first period after a confusion between Samuel Montembeault and Chris Wideman. Number 37 has written his name on the score sheet in a fourth game in a row. Winner of the Stanley Cup in 2020 and 2021 with the Lightning, the Quebecer has now hit the target eight times in 16 games against CH.

A FIRST IN 2022

Alexander Romanov now has a place among the “top four” at the CH blue line. He’s playing good hockey, he’s more consistent, but he still hasn’t gained confidence offensively. He took advantage of the Kraken’s first visit to the Bell Center to score his first goal since December 11. The Russian ended the game with a goal and an assist. He had not yet obtained a point under the control of St-Louis.
