Canadian Olympic Committee dissociates itself from tweets by ex-athlete Jamie Salé

Jamie Salé is no stranger to the controversy over mandatory vaccinations, and she doesn’t hide it.

She accepts interviews from right-wing alternative media like Rebel Media or True Northwhich can be easily viewed on YouTube or Twitter.

The former athlete from Alberta also supported without hesitation, last year, the so-called freedom convoy in Ottawa.

She even claimed that COVID-19 was a hoax and she still warns the public against compulsory vaccination, which she compares to a crime against humanity.

Jamie Salé and his then teammate David Pelletier won gold in pairs at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City following a scandal.

A suspicion of cheating on the part of French judge Marie-Reine Le Gougne confirmed that she had favored the Russian couple to the detriment of the Canadian couple in exchange for an agreement between the French and Russian skating federations to favor a French couple dancing a few days later.

Jamie Salé, who is now a motivator and speaker, enjoys great popularity on social networks where she has 108,000 followers on Twitter alone.

His Twitter feed brings together statements that some would call dubious and come from sources that some would find questionable, about vaccines or masks for example.

The 45-year-old Olympic champion maintains that mainstream media only spread lies and those who govern us should be in prison.

Her statements, however, are reacting, such as those on the masks against COVID-19 prescribed to children that she had compared to violence against minors.

Her most recent tweet shows her endorsing a tweet from an unidentified individual who would happily attend on Pay Per View to the execution of Bill Gates, Albert Bourla (the president of Pfizer, Ed) or Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Dr. Brian Goldman had criticized in a tweet the TOronto Star in early February for writing an article about Salé, pointing out that his views on public health put the lives of Canadians at risk.

Reactions from the Canadian Olympic Committee

In an email to Radio-Canada, the Canadian Olympic Committee writes that, while the COC respects people’s freedom of expression, we find its statements on social media to be deeply troubling.

We do not condone the spread of false informationcontinues the spokesperson for the Committee, Thomas Hall.

« The COC has made it clear throughout the pandemic that we are stronger together and are following measures to protect ourselves and our communities, living our message.”Be Olympic”. We invite everyone to respect the recommendations of their local health authorities and those of Health Canada. »

RCMP say they are aware of Sale’s controversial post, but are not being investigated.

As a general rule, it is necessary that an investigation result in the laying of criminal charges for the RCMP to confirm that an investigation has taken place, the nature of the charges that will be laid and the identity of the persons involved.wrote his spokesperson, Cpl Kim Chamberland in another email.

The lawyer Ari Goldkind affirms that it is necessary to pay attention to certain excesses which hide, according to him, under the will to censor any opinion with which one is in disagreement.

Criminal defense attorney Ari Goldkind says there are no grounds for filing criminal charges against Jamie Sale, nor the one whose tweet she retweeted.

A distinction must be made, according to him, between freedom of expression and hate crime, even if the line can be thin between the two. Mr. Goldkind points out that disgraceful, misleading or disrespectful tweets do not merit legal action.

In this case, Jamie Salé didn’t call for anyone’s execution, but that she would witness their execution, even though it’s true that her tweet is heinoushe says.

The author of the initial tweet may be subject to a police investigation, but again, I’m not convinced that it would lead to criminal chargeshe said, recalling that no death threat was made against Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Me Goldkind regrets that some are always quick to censor opinions with which they disagree, because they are offensive or because they disseminate misinformation in the public.

Unfortunately, many Canadians are unaware of the law and the Criminal Code is very clear on the definition or nature of a hate crime.he continues.

The lawyer explains that the law on hate crimes prescribes that an individual who would advocate violence against a particular group in society risks incurring criminal charges.

James Sears advocated hatred against an identifiable group, it’s the very notion of hate speech, but his position is very different from what Jamie Salé reposted onlinerecalls Me Goldkind about the editor of the anti-Semitic magazine Your Ward News.

Me Goldkind recalls that the very principle of freedom of expression is to protect the most disturbing and odious opinions, as long as no one breaks the law.

Jamie Salé did not respond to our interview request prior to the publication of this article.
