Canadian Nick Taylor had a thunderous day Saturday at the Canadian Open. In 47th place heading into round three, Taylor posted an impressive 63 to set a course record and climbed to -11.
Taylor is three shots behind CT Pan, who birdied twice late to take the lead alone, two shots ahead of a group of six golfers.
Rory McIlroy, Mark Hubbard, Justin Rose, Harry Higgs, Tommy Fleetwood et Andrew Novak partagent tous la 2e position.
McIlroy, who has won the last two editions of the tournament, turned in a 66.
Nick Taylor started his day with a bang, collecting five birdies in the first nine holes. He followed up on the back nine with four more birdies and didn’t bogey. Taylor only needed 23 putts to complete his day’s work.

His Canadian compatriot Corey Conners, who started the day a shot off the lead, settled for a card of 70. He finds himself tied at 9e row, four strokes from Pan.
“You have to keep playing aggressively because there’s a lot of long grass on this course. If you stay in the lanes, you’ll get a lot of short shots with your irons, which will give you plenty of birdie opportunities, Pan said.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if someone went under-8 or under-9 (in the final round) because the PGA guys are really good. »
Taylor Pendrith is tied for 24th at 5 under after a round of 70. Roger Sloan is in the next group at 4 under, finishing his round in 73 shots. Will Bateman slipped to a tie for 54th at 1 under after a round of 75. Mike Weir (74) and Stuart Macdonald (75) are tied at par after 54 holes.
Pat Fletcher was the last Canadian to win the national championship, in 1954 in Vancouver.
“I think we all encourage each other, but we all want to win,” said Taylor, who trains regularly with Conners. If it’s not me who wins, I hope it will be another Canadian.
“If I look at the board at the end and I’m second behind Corey Conners, it would almost be like winning. »
