Thirteen high-level fights in one of the largest performance halls in French-speaking Switzerland, the event had something to dream about aficionados of this extreme combat sport, the first to be held in Geneva for a long time.
It will finally not take place on Friday July 7th. MMA Grand Prix founder Abdel Khaznadji, who mainly organizes fights in France, is bitter. One person would have wanted to scuttle the event by spreading false information. The organizers will now take legal action.
Lies about permissions
This person allegedly pretended to be the organizer of the event. She would have indicated to the box in charge of communication that the event had not received the necessary authorizations and that a new date had to be planned for the event.
From there, it was difficult for Abdel Khaznadji to maintain the event and to reassure his partners in whom doubt had already settled. He also wanted to prevent counterfeit tickets from being sold. So he decided to postpone the event. He indicates that he has already obtained the necessary authorizations for September.
“Pirate World”
For Abdel Khaznadji, MMA has become a “world of pirates”, with many people wanting to make a profit. He feels he has been a victim of his own success. “We have already suffered an attempted sabotage in Bordeaux in December. People wanted to believe that we did not have authorizations. We think of the same people for Geneva”, he indicates in La Matinale.
Abdel Khaznadji hopes that the fights will be able to take place in September at the Arena in Geneva. He aims to launch a series of events in Switzerland. In the meantime, people who have purchased a ticket will be able to reuse it at the next event in Geneva. They can, if they wish, be reimbursed. The MMA Grand Prix estimates its losses at nearly 25,000 euros, an equivalent sum in francs.
