Candy Crush has been downloaded over 3 billion times –

From time to time we hear of records set by major video games that have sold millions of copies. Then there’s Candy Crush who turns 11 tomorrow. Meanwhile, this free-to-play title has been downloaded 3 billion times.

The almost unfathomable number was revealed in a interview MobileGamer.biz with Candy Crush boss Todd Green. We already knew (from King’s latest quarterly report) that Candy Crush had 233 million monthly active users in the fourth quarter of 2022, which really helps explain why Microsoft wants to buy Activision Blizzard, of which King is a part.

This instantly makes Microsoft a huge player in mobile games, and we have to assume that Microsoft wants to make all of these users part of the Xbox ecosystem eventually for a huge boost. Green himself had this to say about the merger:

“We continue to be focused on King and our business, but what I can say is that King is excited about the possibilities the merger could bring.

Microsoft said an important part of the deal is their ability to expand into the mobile space. We are excited that King can be a part of this potential future, although we will continue to operate as two separate companies for now. »
