19.5 million euros. This is the amount of the fine that four professional agri-food organizations and eleven companies will have to pay, including Bonduelle, d’Aucy, Unilever, Charles & Alice and Andros. They are accused of not having alerted consumers of the presence of bisphenol A (BPA), an endocrine disruptor now banned, in the packaging of their products. Present in the resin covering the inside of cans, BPA is in fact likely to migrate into food. According to the Competition Authority, the four federations, unions and industrial associations had agreed so that their member companies would not compete with each other. This was to avoid penalizing those who had not complied following the law scheduling the suspension of food containers containing BPA for 2015.
