Canteen waste collected

A nice gesture for the planet – and for the city of Saran – was concluded Tuesday at the town hall. Deputy Christian Fromentin and Bruno Malinverno, president of Aabraysie développement, signed an agreement providing a successful solution to the management of bio-waste from schools.

The collection is done in soft mobility

The gesture is not insignificant: canteens produce 15 to 18 tonnes of organic waste each year. However, from 2024, bio-waste and used oils will have to be collected separately to be recovered, in accordance with the Grenelle 2 law. The city preferred to take the lead.

Aabraysie Development will be its partner. The local and solidarity company, which will be 30 years old in 2023, is located in Saint-Jean-de-Braye. Its activities: transport, green spaces, landscaping and, therefore, collection and recovery of waste.

Everything is done to respect the environment, to the point that the collection is done in soft mobility: whether by cargo bike with the cycloposters, capable of carrying 250 kilos of load by calf force and electric assistance; or with a goupil, a small 100% electric French utility vehicle, acquired through crowdfunding.

In accordance with the agreement, bio-waste will be transformed into compost. The circuit involves the use of a new generation electro-mechanical composter, designed, patented and manufactured in France. This magic machine “digests” the waste then, a fortnight later, after having crushed it (to which carbonaceous materials are added), the fresh compost is ready, without nuisance, without smell. After maturing for only two months, it is ready to be used.

From local producers

This homemade compost can be provided to organic market gardeners in the city. There is also talk of a municipal farm project producing its own vegetables.

This good understanding, and these technical skills possessed by Aabraysie développement, are only waiting to start… as soon as the State has issued a sanitary approval.
