Yamoussoukro, January 15 (APS) – Cape Verde scored a historic victory on Sunday in Abidjan against Ghana, whom it beat, 2-1, on the first day of Group B of the Cup of Nations 2023, of which he at the same time took the lead in the ranking.
The Cape Verdeans took care of their entry into CAN 2023 in Ivory Coast by winning against the Ghanaians. They thus sign their first victory against the Black Stars.
Pedro Leitão Brito’s players opened the scoring in the 17th minute with a goal from Jamiro. Alexander Djiku equalized for Ghana after returning from the locker room in the 56th minute. Cape Verde snatched victory in added time, in the 92nd minute, thanks to Garry Rodrigues.
With three points, Cape Verde occupies first place in group B. In the other group match, Egypt and Mozambique scored twice.
Group A is dominated by Côte d’Ivoire which won, 2-0, in the opening match of the CAN, against Guinea-Bissau, on Saturday. The two other teams in the group, Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea, ended in a draw (1-1) on Sunday.
