Culminating at 3,324 meters, Etna, in Sicily, is the highest active volcano in Europe. It erupted on Monday, forcing in particular Catania airport to close. In a photo taken on Monday morning by the EUMETSAT agency’s MTGI1 weather satellite, the cloud caused by the explosion can be seen very clearly, extending further than the south of the island.
