A local journalist died in a car stabbing in Kollam. The accident took place today around 4.30 pm on the Chatannoor Tirumuk-Paravur road. Sudhi Velamanoor (45), writer, scriptwriter and lyricist of Kerala Kaumudi newspaper, Chatannoor, died at Velamanoor Uma Mandir. The car was set on fire next to Sudhi’s house in Palamoot, Meenad, where she was currently staying. The fire broke out following he got into a car parked on the road. The body was shifted to Paripally Medical College Hospital Mortuary.
After an explosion was heard from the car, a passing motorist smashed the back glass of the car but the fire broke out. The employees of the nearby establishment forced open the door of the driver’s seat where Sudhi was sitting but might not get her out as her body was engulfed in flames and she was wearing a seat belt. He tried to put out the fire by pouring water but it did not work. Later, the fire brigade came from Paravur and extinguished the fire. He was dead by then.
The body will be handed over to the relatives today following the post-mortem. He has also written screenplays for several telefilms and songs for films and albums. Late K.P.
