A 16-year-old boy was hospitalized Friday after a car surfing accident in Gatineau.

With the help of a driver, he climbed onto the roof of a moving vehicle at the intersections of Rue de l’Oasis and Rue Impasse des Vents.

The two young people involved were arrested by the police.

According to information from the Service de police de la Ville de Gatineau (SPVG), an emergency call was received shortly before 11 a.m. concerning an unconscious teenager.

After checks, the police found that the individual in question lost consciousness after falling from a vehicle.

He was taken to hospital and the authorities do not fear for his life.

“We must understand that there are risks associated with this type of activity, serious risks. There is even talk of the possibility of losing your life. It’s not trivial, so you really have to be careful and don’t indulge in this activity,” warns Andrée East, spokesperson for the City of Gatineau Police Department.

The 17-year-old driver of the vehicle and the 16-year-old teenager will both receive a fine of approximately $1,000, in addition to 12 demerit points, and the suspension of their license for 7 days.

The vehicle involved was also seized.
