Cardinal Louis Raphael Sacco, Chaldean Patriarch of Babylon, moves his throne to Kurdistan

The Chaldean Patriarch of Babylon, Cardinal Louis Raphael Sacco, has announced that he will transfer his throne to Kurdistan. The center of the Patriarchate has been in Baghdad until now, but the new decision is to leave it and move to a parish church under one of the monasteries in Kurdistan, Iraq.
An official announcement regarding this was published on the website of the Chaldean Patriarchate on Saturday, July 15. The explanatory note said the cardinal’s decision followed Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid’s decision to revoke an order established in 2013 by former head of state Jalal Talabani.
The Cardinal underscored that the government’s silence on the suffering of Iraq’s Christian communities has greatly troubled the Patriarch and the Catholic Church as a whole.
