Top Contenders: WWE in Talks with Disney, Amazon Prime Video, and More for Exclusivity Deals

In May, we informed you that WWE entered the external negotiation phase for broadcast contracts for RAW and SmackDown because USA Network (RAW) and FOX (SmackDown) had ended their period of exclusivity to renew the contract and no deal had been signed, which opened the door for WWE to explore other broadcasters, and at the same time not be left without.

The New York Post reported on the subject this morning and we learn that WWE has had discussions with Disney and Amazon Prime Video. Disney has shown an interest in WWE merchandise and would like to have a show on their FX channel and not ESPN as that channel could not guarantee a permanent broadcast night due to multiple contracts with the NFL, NBA, MLB and others.

As for Amazom Prime Video, its goal is to bring a WWE show, which would make RAW or SmackDown for the first time exclusively on a streaming platform. On the other hand, this could upset several fans who like to see it on traditional TV.

Amazon’s choice could mark a milestone as a WWE program would leave traditional cable for the very first time. Amazon was able to acquire the NFL’s ‘Thursday Night Football’, so anything is possible.

The New York Post report also mentions that Apple and Warner Bros could be added to the discussions, but that nothing has officially started and that it would be surprising to see them win this race. Warner Bros. hasn’t signed an exclusive with AEW, so another professional wrestling company may be popping up on their channel.

In 2019, WWE signed big deals with $265 million per year for RAW and $205 million per year for SmackDown. It remains to be seen what WWE will be able to achieve this year.
