Cardiologist José Luis Zamorano, 2022 Award from the Royal National Academy of Medicine of Spain

The Royal National Academy of Medicine of Spain has announced the ruling of the RANME 2022 Awards after the Governing Board held on December 14. The Royal Corporation particularly highlights the substantial increase in the number of participants in this year’s call, since the number of candidacies and works presented has almost tripled, something that they relate to the prestige and high level both scientific and academic of the Contest.

The RANME 2022 Awards have encompassed a total of 12 distinctions that have been awarded in 7 different categories: RANME, Research, General and Family Medicine, Teaching and Medical Education, Information and Communication, Bachelor of Medicine and Doctorate.

The highest award corresponds to the Royal Academy Award, whose winner receives recognition together with the title of Corresponding Academician of the RANME, the Medal of the Academic Body and the corresponding accrediting diploma, has fallen to Jose Luis Zamorano GomezProfessor of Medicine at the University of Alcalá de Henares and Head of the Cardiology Service of the Ramón y Cajal Hospital in Madrid.

There have been three prizes awarded in the Research category. First, the Basic Medical Research Award to Dr. Ana Belen Sanz Bartholomew for the work entitled “Bone Marrow–Derived RIPK3 Mediates Kidney Inflammation in Acute Kidney Injury”. Second, the Translational Medical Research Award designated to Dr. Maria Victoria Llorens Martinauthor of the research titled “Impact of neurodegenerative diseases on human adult hippocampal neurogenesis”.

Thirdly, the Clinical Research Award which has gone to Dr. Javier Perez Gisbertinvestigador principal de “European Registry on Helicobacter pylori management (Hp-EuReg): patterns and trends in first-line empirical eradication prescription and outcomes of 5 years and 21 533 patients”

The General and Family Medicine Award has been for Dr. Maria Luisa Lopez Diaz-Ufano, presented by the Royal National Academy of Medicine of the Basque Country and by the Spanish Society of Primary Care Physicians (Semergen). The one for Teaching and Medical Education has fallen to the Dr. Arcadi Gual Sala, presented by Tomás Cobo Castro, President of CGCOM. And the Health Information, Communication and Dissemination Award has recognized the MUSAL (Museum of Health)presented by the Royal Academy of Medicine of Eastern Andalusia.

Regarding the Bachelor of Medicine and Doctorate Awards, the Bachelor of Medicine Award has been for Ms. Rocío Alonso Castillo; the National Doctorate Award “Clinical Medical Sciences” has been for the Dr. Alejandro Medina Herreraauthor of “Molecular characterization of immunoglobulin heavy chain rearrangement in multiple myeloma: utility as a marker of minimal residual disease”.

The National Doctorate Award “Basic Medical Sciences” has been for the Dr. Julia A. Ramírez Moya for his research titled “Unraveling RNA regulatory mechanisms in thyroid cancer”. The National Doctorate Award “Clinical Surgical Sciences” has been awarded to the Dr. A.S. Henry Rodriguez of Santiago for “Characteristics of chronic liver disease after Fontan surgery”. Finally, the National Doctorate Award “Social and Health Medical Sciences” has been for the Dr. A.S. Pedro Luis Valenzuela Heel por su trabajo “Aging- and muscle disuseinduced functional decline: Physiological mechanisms and preventive strategies”.
